Part One: The Learning | OTA
Who: Arthur Lester and YOU
When: Late December, pre-event
Where: Around town, probably getting lost
Open/Closed: Open!
Applicable Warnings: Blindness and learning to use assistive devices, frustrations therein, Arthur's fucking stressed
So it turns out it's difficult to get the hang of being blind when he doesn't have John to guide him. Which doesn't surprise him; it had been difficult enough in the lighthouse, and that was small. This is an entirely new city, in a time he doesn't belong to, with a single person he can trust right now to guide him, and even then he can't ask her to be glued to his hip just so he can pretend he can see.
Nor would he want to. Even now, even with his eyes completely down (but, thankfully, his hand and foot back) he still maintains that furious independence.
...however, he's still blind. And therefore, learning how to use the cane he found at the front door, when he was leaving. So mostly he's wandering the streets, trying to get the hang of this stupid thing so he can avoid walking into the road, or street signs, or other people.
For the first few days, he has... limited success. He looks awkward, and there's definitely more than one person crashed into, or a street sign, both netting a quick, "Sorry, s-sorry--" that the 'locals', as he thinks of them, tend to take with bright, cutting amusement.
Please help him.
