There hasn't been any super recent construction and there isn't a mining industry in the area; policing has been typical. There's not really anywhere to search other than to ask townspeople who don't seem any wiser to it than the PCs are, or to watch the evening local news, which acknowledges the event and puts a number to its magnitude.
