a. The Neighborhood Store
While the Book Club is all well and good as a way to share information, not everyone comes. The texting machines strip so much context from conversation, and she doesn't know most people's numbers anyway. If they're going to figure out what's going on, she needs to meet people.

The lockdown back when she first arrived, during the first "controlled burn," is what gave her the idea. That, and her continued discomfort with the grocery store. Though she doesn't mind subsisting on TV dinners and the stuff Bucky whips up, there's more to life than Salisbury steak and mac'n'cheese.

There's also cake.

A knock comes on your front door, and when you open it, a dark-haired young woman gives you an awkward smile and holds up a notebook with the words:

HELLO! CAN I BORROW A CUP OF SUGAR FOR A CAKE?

b. The Investigation
So, Sweetwater has a force field. Or some other kind of "barrier," that keeps some things in and some things out. Arthur's description hadn't given Chell a full sense of what it felt like, besides "physical," and she doubted that any of the men who'd been investigating it had bothered to rub their cheek on it, so she can't be sure if it's actually some kind of hard light tech or not.

She also suspects that getting close to the barrier will be harder now that the men have done something as obviously disruptive as carjack somebody. It's not the barrier she wants to get a look at necessarily, though. If she were a power generator, where would she be?

Throughout May, especially with the weather getting better, you can find her wandering around town and examining anything that looks like it could be hiding a generator, often following power lines -- and eyeing the birds perched on them warily. (She carries an umbrella in her bag, even when the weather is nice, in the event of another murderbird incursion.)

If challenged while inspecting a door marked ELECTRICAL, she starts guiltily. Hello, neighbor! What, uh, what's up? Haha. How's it going.
