It's even odds, he thinks, whether people thought he was off his rocker in making a post like that, or if people would believe he's actually trying to contact people the only reasonable way he knew how. It was certainly much faster than trying to contact people individually, especially in this weather, and hopefully between himself and Helly that they've met enough people to get a decent turn-out.

The more they can learn about this place, the more they can trust each other, the better. Right now, trust is all they have.

The lower floor of the house is well lit, even if all the windows are curtained and shut, and there's a record playing in the lounge, audible from outside - something jazzy and dated by the standards of the time, but a bit of Hoagy Carmichael and Billie Holiday is settling his nerves, if nothing else - and the kitchen is... sparse, clearly underused but for the stack of mugs by the sink, but with some effort the blind leading the blind he and Helly have at least put together a salad for people. Theoretically they'll be bringing their own food too, make it at least ostensibly a potluck.

There are times it comes in handy for Wrench to admit a little less than what he knows. But right now, in the midst of this little circle of introductions, he manages to forget that. Fortunately, the clarifying words that Margaret has him are among the most familiar, regardless of whose mouth is shaping them. He's been making sense of the both of them for nearly his entire life, and his nod is almost reflexive. It's in his eyes first — a languid blink of acknowledgment that's followed by a short jutting of his chin in the affirmative.

Wrench is pretty sure this is far and away the most people he's shared physical space with in well over a decade. And they're all talking and fighting, sharing information and making plans. He'd like very much to run back into the damn woods, he thinks. He doesn't want to leave Grady, but he wants his old jacket back and the benefit of a little stillness.

Deaf, yes. You got it.

Margaret nods in acknowledgement, subtly turning away from the crowd to talk individually to Wrench. She furrows her brow, thinking on the best way to communicate back to Wrench. She's dealt with patients in post-op after they'd lost their hearing--as well as those who found themselves unable to speak, either from psychological reasons or physical trauma.

Maybe they can just continue like this? She points to Wrench's notebook, then makes a scribbling gesture on her hand in a crude gesture to represent writing. Margaret then holds out her hand for Wrench to give her the paper to write on.
