Numbers is immediately pulled from the conversation when Teddy protests out loud. He turns in their direction, eyebrows raised in confusion and surprise. Maybe he should've made a better effort to disguise that he was talking about them. He glances back towards Wrench, catching what he says about the stranger--apparently named Teddy--who so rudely interrupted their conversation.

I can see that, he signs back, irked. Dammit. Of course, this isn't the first time this has happened. It was rare for anyone to actually speak ASL in the circles they frequented, much less understand it, but the handful of times that it's happened while discussing sensitive information has been mortifying for him.

Much like Wrench, he hasn't exactly spent a lot of time thinking about his identity. What mattered to him was was what he presented to other people, what he wanted them to think when they saw him--an insignificant drifter who could blend in with the crowd to a man who could kill you if you breathed the wrong way. He could embody it all. Numbers waits for Wrench to finish speaking to Teddy, then faces them again, head tilted to the side like a puzzled dog. He looks them up and down, trying to make sense of their comment.

"So...not a woman. Girl? Boy? Man? Person?" he continues, sounding slightly unsure and cycling through the different signs to demonstrate as he says them.
